Robert Lee “Bobby Lee” or “BoBo” Allen, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the Phillips Funeral Home chapel, Star, with the Rev. Martin Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Biscoe Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home.
Robert was born Oct. 10, 1928, to Clarence Baily Allen and Edna Fuller Allen. He graduated from Hugh Morris School in 1945. He served in the Korean War with the 434th Engineer Battalion (the conquerors of Iwo Jima), where he earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and ROK Presidential Unit citation.
He worked 44 years for Norfolk Southern Rail Road from 1947 to 1991. He was the conductor of Grand No. 19. He was a life member of Grace Baptist Church in Raleigh, a life member of the VFW Post 9881, and a member of SCV Camp No. 1502.
Robert was affectionately known as BoBo to his family and friends. He loved life, people, boating, water skiing, collecting guns and shooting them, car races, and had the pleasure of racing for his 78th birthday at Petty Enterprise in Charlotte.
He especially loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his dog McDuffie, his bird A.J., going to the beach, VFW Post 9881, SCV Camp No. 1502. He was a good man and a friend to many. We were blessed to have shared in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jean Ferguson, of Charlotte.
BoBo is survived by his wife of 13 years, Faye Brower Allen, of the home; daughter, Sharon Allen Ham and husband, Bob Ham, children and grandchildren, of Wilkesboro; son, Eric Eugene Allen and wife, Miranda Strider Allen, of Wendell; daughter, Joy Allen Miller and husband, Witt Miller, of Raleigh; son, Victor Allen and wife, Leslie, and son, of Eagle Springs; daughter, Valerie Allen Mitchell and husband, Tom Mitchell, and children, of Raleigh; son, Chris Allen and wife, Lynn Allen, and children, of Clayton; daughter, Darcy Allen and children, of Raleigh; stepson, Paul Bodsford Jr. and wife, Mary Lemonds Bodsford, children and grandchildren, of Biscoe; stepdaughter, Daphne Bodsford Gardner and husband, Jim Gardner, children and grandchildren, of Star; stepdaughter, Pam Bodsford Cleaveland and husband, Barney Cleaveland, children and grandchildren, of Star; stepson, Harold Ray Moore and wife, Shirley Moore, children and grandchildren, of Robbins; and stepson, Woody Craig Williams, of New York, children and grandchildren, of Candor and Robbins.
