Obituary for Violet C. Arhart

Violet Catherine Arhart, of Carol Stream, Ill., passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, after a short illness, and will be greatly missed. A former resident of Southern Pines for 37 years, she recently relocated to Windsor Park Manor to be closer to family.
Funeral services were held in Joliet, Ill., where she was born, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Violet worked for North Carolina National Bank in Greensboro for 10 years and for Palatine School District 15 in Illinois for 10 years. She enjoyed painting and travel, but her primary interest was in her family. She got the entire extended family together regularly for a week’s reunion at North Carolina beaches over a period of 30 years which strengthened bonds among the children and especially the grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant E. Arhart, of Southern Pines; one son, Roger Arhart, of Salt Lake City, Utah; one granddaughter, Katie Arhart, of Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Vera Kunke and Dorothy Kamnakar. She is survived by three children and their spouses: Richard and Barbara Arhart, of Wilmington, Del., Jeff and Mary Arhart, of Bartlett, Ill., and Karen Arhart Lowe and Vaughn Lowe, of Centreville, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Jane Arhart, of Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. A memorial service followed at the funeral home. Inurnment was at the Woodlawn Memorial Park.
