Arthur E. Chalker, 79, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Community Presbyterian Church, in Pinehurst. Family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Chalker was born Dec. 4, 1932, in Miami, to the late Dorothy Roberts and Daniel Edwin Chalker. He served his country in the U.S. Army and graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in English. He retired from DuPont after 16 years of service.
He and his wife retired to Pinehurst in 1996, where he was very involved in the community. He was a past chairman of the Planning Board for the village of Pinehurst, volunteered with the Coalition, and mentored students at Pinehurst Elementary School.
Mr. Chalker is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley; daughter Jana Brultz and husband, Shawn, of Williamsburg, Va.; brother Daniel Edwin Overlin, of Florida; and granddaughters Sadie and Sally Brultz. He was predeceased by a son, A. Brian Chalker.
