Vincent J. Di Fruscio Sr. passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at the church where he worshipped, Our Savior Lutheran, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, after which a reception will be held in the Friendship Hall.
Born and raised in Astoria, N.Y., he moved to Southern Pines in 1990 from South Florida, where he retired from a career in wholesale food sales. Once established in Southern Pines, Vince enjoyed working at The O’Neal School as building and grounds manager.
Vince was known as a train enthusiast and an avid model railroader. His basement is home to a multi-gage Lionel model train layout that is local legend, covering well over 250 square feet and including mountains, tunnels, bridges, and towns, and composing soils from around the world in his travels with his wife of 53 years, Lois.
Vince is survived by Lois; his son Vincent Jr.; his partner Neil Averick, of Chicago; and his goddaughter Kathleen Arcuri, her husband Nick and daughter Madison, of Sparta, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Our Savior Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1517 Luther Way, Southern Pines, NC 28387.
