Ralph Ernest Grossheim, 83, of Seven Lakes, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.
Mr. Grossheim was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Newark, N.J., to the late Ernest Rudolph Grossheim and Henrietta (Langenberg) Grossheim. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a Navy scholarship and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
After serving his country, Mr. Grossheim went to work for the Aluminum Company of America. He had a distinguished career that took him and his family to a variety of locations including Trinidad, Washington, Pennsylvania, Suriname, Alabama and Texas. He retired to Seven Lakes in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene; son Ralph and wife, Becky; daughters Gail and Reanie; son Todd and wife, Lisa; and son Kurt and wife, Jill. He was also a beloved grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Justin, Kelly, Kristina, Lindsay, Melissa, Ryan, Braden, Samantha, Stephen, Matthew, Michael, and Konrad.
Mr. Grossheim’s lifelong passion was his wife and family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a dedicated grandfather who cherished every minute with adoring loved ones. The way he lived his life served as a model for those who loved him.
He enjoyed playing golf with friends and family, watching Notre Dame football, and meeting the Seven Lakes ROMEOs for breakfast.
Mr. Grossheim participated in the Seven Lakes Landowner’s Association, Lion’s Club, Investment Club, Junior Achievement and Kiwanis Club.
