William Vann McCall, 60, of Southern Pines, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Hope Valley Baptist Church, in Durham, with the Rev. Bill Bigger and the Rev. Tom Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Wake Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Vann was born March 9, 1952, in Greensboro, and moved to Durham as a child. He attended Sandhill Community College, and was a graduate of Wichita State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was also very talented in the restoration of classic automobiles, winning first place in a contest in Hershey, Pa.
Surviving are his parents, Kenneth Lovell and Mildred Williams McCall; two aunts, Louise Benton, of Wilmington, and Muriel Moore, of Raleigh; two uncles, Van Williams, of Climax, and Charles Williams, of Hendersonville; a special cousin, Diane Umberger, of Dallas; as well as many other cousins.
