Obituary for Johnnie R. Childress

Johnnie “Roger” Childress, 67, of Cameron, passed Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Lamms Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, in Carthage, with the Rev. Billy Childress Jr. officiating. A visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines.
Mr. Childress was born Aug. 23, 1944, in Cameron, to the late Spencer Dallas Childress and Mary Holder Childress. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a loving father and grandfather who was loyal to his country, family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Keith Childress and wife, Shannon, of Cameron; a daughter, Keri Crowl and husband, John, of Aberdeen; three brothers, Clinton Childress and wife, Joan, of Lemon Springs, Eugene Childress and wife, Carol, of Lemon Springs, and David Childress and wife, Cheryl, of Cameron; sister, Joyce Ring, of Cameron, and Sylvia Ring, of Cameron; and six grandchildren, Jordan Childress, Wil Childress, Tori Crowl, Catie Crowl, Jack Crowl and Sean Crowl. Mr. Childress was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston Childress and Billy Ray Childress; and a sister, Mae Gulledge.
