Walter C. Mitchell, 85, of Southern Pines passed away suddenly on October 31, 2012. He was born March 29, 1927 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Belle Meade Chapel followed by a reception at Henley.
Upon graduation from High School at the age of 17, Walter joined the US Navy where he served in the Pacific. Upon his return Walter went to Drexel University in Philadelphia where he earned his degree in 3 years in Business Administration. Over the next 40 years Walter worked for DuPont as a Controller, then on to General Motors in Pontiac, MI and finally on to American Standard in NYC where he retired at the age of 60 as Deputy Corporate Controller. Upon retirement he and wife Joan resided in Pinehurst.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Florence Mitchell, wife Joan and son Steven. He is survived by Robert and Kerri Mitchell, grandson Todd and wife Rebecca Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Abby Marsa, Glenn and wife Pauline Marsa.
