Benjamin “Reed” Gaddy, 49, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at UNC Hospitals, in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service & Crematory, 1937 North Sharon Amity Road, in Charlotte.
He was born June 20, 1963, in Charlotte. Reed became a volunteer of the Whispering Pines Fire and Rescue Associations in 1996. He was employed as a firefighter with the Whispering Pines Fire Department in 1999. In 2006, Reed was promoted to fire chief with the village.
He is survived by his sisters, Margaret DeStefani, of Charlotte, and Christi Horowitz and husband, Leon, of Olympia, Wash.; three nieces; six nephews; two great-nieces; and six great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Melissa Gaddy; and his father, Benjamin Wilborn Gaddy.
