Barry Todd Hinson Sr., 51, of Star, was cured from cancer on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Guiding Light Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Allen officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Phillips Funeral Home, Star.
He was born in Montgomery County to James William Hinson Sr. and Lola Reynolds Hinson, and was a construction inspector for the town of Southern Pines. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his father, James William Hinson Sr. He is survived by his wife, Doris Stafford Hinson, of the home; daughter, Tonya Hinson (Harold) Holt, of Sanford, and grandchildren Micaela Coen and William Holt; sons, Barry (Le’Ann) Todd Hinson Jr., of West End, and grandchildren Rhonda and Barry Todd Hinson III, and James Michael Hinson, of West End, and grandchildren James Lee and Austin Blake Hinson, Logan Reynolds Hinson, of Eagle Springs, and Robert Craig Hinson of Winston-Salem; step-daughters, Leslie Ellison and Whitney Ellison, of Star; brothers, James Hinson Jr., of Woodlake, Johnny Hinson, of Lakeview, and Randy Hinson, of Sanford; and sisters, Debra Thomas, of West End, Sharon Bean, of Candor, and Kim Carlan of Monroe.
