Obituary for Donald K. Wrigley

Donald K. Wrigley, 79, of Pinehurst, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at his home.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Cardinal Room at the Carolina Hotel, Pinehurst. Officiating will be the Rev. Al Hill and the Rev. Larry Ellis. (For directions to the memorial service, go to caringbridge.org and enter “Don Wrigley” for access to his website.)
Born Nov. 29, 1933, in Williamsburg, N.Y., to the late Kenneth and LeVera Wrigley, he attended Williamsville Senior High School and went on to study at Kings College in New York. Donald was an insurance agent/broker for Allstate Insurance Company for many years, retiring in 1998. He was an athlete, having played pro baseball as well as teaching all sports at schools in Charlotte.
Don was a devoted follower of Jesus who followed the principles of Jesus’ teachings by building relationships with men throughout the Southeast. His emphasis on discipling and mentoring men in the marketplace extended his commitment to such ministries as The Charlotte Leadership Forum, The National Prayer Breakfast and to the men’s fellowship retreat known as Windy Gap. Don’s servant leadership traits have resulted in literally thousands of men across the Southeast coming to understand the power of relationship in their spiritual journey. For Don, the centrality of Christ in men’s lives was everything.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth W. Wrigley, of Buffalo, N.Y.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty O. Sapp; one son, Dr. Jay Wrigley and his wife, Cameron, of Charlotte, and their children, Isabella and Colton Frers; one daughter, Sharon Reilly, of Charlotte, and her children, Asher Reilly, of California, and Jennifer Reilly Bennett and her husband, Nick, of Lahaina, Hawaii, and their son, Eli; one brother, Robert Wrigley and his wife, Nancy, of Greeneville, Tenn., and two sisters, Genevieve Michel and her husband, Gary, of Buffalo, N.Y., and LaVera Kopacz and her husband Ron, of Buffalo; nine nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lessie Mae Oldham, of Southern Pines; and Betty’s family, Gwendy Hutchinson and her husband, Ken, of Southern Pines and their son, Brent Weiser and his wife, Shelley, of Austin, Texas; Trey Sapp and his wife, Kristin, of Chester Springs, Pa., and their children, Avery and Daven; Steve Sapp and his wife, Kathy, of Middletown, N.J., and their children, Sophie and Riley.
