Maibelle (Toody) Drumm Blauw, 94, formerly of Pinehurst, passed peacefully away Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Maibelle was born July 30, 1918, in Shelbina, Mo., the only child of Manuel and Maibelle Moore Drumm. She graduated with an English major from the University of Missouri.
She was a war bride, military wife and mother, friend to many, and a fabulous cook and entertainer. She truly loved her family and her home. She had a passion for golf, bridge and crosswords.
In her senior years she became extremely creative with sculpting, painting, collecting and refashioning old tired treasures into remarkably interesting objects d’arte. She never complained and she laughed a lot. She had a wonderful life, was very loved and will be missed.
She is survived by her husband of more than 70 years, Col. Robert Edward Blauw (USAF, Ret.), of Concord; son, Lt. Col. Craig Blauw (USAF, Ret.) and wife, Linda, of Alachua, Fla.; daughters, Carol Schofield and husband, Richard, of Concord, and Jane Blauw, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Lt. Col. Russell Blauw, USMC, and wife, Jennifer, of Arlington, Va., Dr. Casady Blauw Gaines and husband, Dr. Greg Gaines, of Gainesville, Fla., and Sara Schofield, of Concord; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Jack and Grace Gaines, and Elizabeth and Mathew Blauw.
We are grateful to Visiting Angels of Charlotte, Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, and the private caregivers that tended to her needs.
