Obituary for Charles W. Carpenter

Charles William Carpenter, 79, of Clarkston, Wa., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, from complications of heart disease.
Charlie was born Dec. 15, 1932, to Charles and Lydia Carpenter. He grew up in Aberdeen, then joined the Air Force. After his time in the service, he moved to Seattle, where he worked for Boeing for 15 years,
Charlie was highly creative and had an adventurous spirit. He moved regularly while with Boeing, to Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Missouri and Wyoming, and then branched out into several new areas of employment.
He worked building modular homes, as a heating/air conditioning/ventilation installer, building cabinets and trusses, and then tried his hand an as owner/chef of several Mexican food restaurants. He and his wife, Sally, owned and operated four different La Casita restaurants in Idaho and Washington. Along the way, Charlie built homes with Sally, completing 14, the last of which when he was 78.
Charlie belonged to First Nazarene and was greatly comforted by his faith.
When he wasn’t building houses, Charlie liked to ride dirt motorcycles and was an expert at trials riding.
Traveling along with Charlie were his wife, Sally Carpenter, and three children, Linda Cox, of Renton, Wa., Abbey Carpenter, of Pullman, Wa., and Lance Carpenter, of Marysville, Wa. Charlie is also survived by four grandsons; two new granddaughters-in-law; three great-grandchildren; his sister Martha Swaringen and niece Lee Clayton, of Aberdeen.
