Clarence Alfred Dannar passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in Durham, after enduring a difficult battle with cancer under the care-giving hands of his son Kevin.
Born Nov. 23, 1937, in Crawford, Neb., Clarence was the son of Sina (Peterson) and Clarence Alfred Dannar Sr. He was the youngest of five children. He attended Crawford Elementary, graduated from Chadron Prep School, and attended Chadron State Teachers College prior to joining the United States Navy. He served on the USS Theodore E. Chandler DD-717 as a radio operator at the age of 19 during peace time.
Throughout the years, Clarence was an entrepreneur of sorts and involved in many different career choices. This included owning and operating an insurance agency and a tax accountant in Lincoln, Neb., as well as a baker in a bakery in Broken Arrow, Okla. Later in life, he managed numerous storage facilities in Arizona and Southern California. He was currently co-managing with his wife, Hope, “A Storage Place” in Angleton, Texas.
Clarence, as a young man, always enjoyed the outdoors, where he was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a child, Clarence fished at Whitney Lake with his whole family. He had traveled extensively across the United States and his family was very important to him — he loved family. Clarence’s family and friends could always look forward to enjoying a big hug and even bigger laugh.
Clarence was a spiritual man and believed in prayer. Kevin was sent this prayer, and prays it daily in remembrance of his loving father:
“Lord, I love you and I need you. Come into my heart, and bless me, my family, my home, and my friends, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
He is survived by his wife, Muriel Hope (Snyder) Dannar, of Angleton, Texas; two sons, Kevin Joseph Dannar and Michael John Dannar; one grandchild, Garrett Michael Dannar, of North Carolina; one daughter, Donna Bowers, of Rockwell Iowa; one brother, Charles Dannar, of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Dannar and Laurence Dannar; and one sister, Dorothy Freitas Seiber.
Funeral services will be private.
