Michael “Mike” Sauls, 64 of Sanford, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at UNC Hospitals, in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Sauls was born June 7, 1948, in Greensboro, to the late Peggy Fraski, his biological mother; and adoptive parents, Lee Royal Sauls and Bertie Mae (Brown) Sauls.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford, with military honors being rendered at 8 p.m.
Mr. Sauls served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart. Mike enjoyed trips to Surf City, where he loved to pier fish. He was a good-hearted family man who loved his motorcycle, and the occasional bonfire. He would give you the shirt off his back and would expect nothing in return.
Mr. Sauls is survived by his wife, Dorothy G. Sauls; two sons, Dane Bumgarner, of Vass, and Waylon Sauls and wife, Jessica, of Vass; three daughters, Carol Cofery, of Chapel Hill, Brooke Mason and husband, Quincy, of Siler City, and Emily Gilchrist, of Sanford; two brothers, Billy and Robert Maness; and a sister, Margie Goral, all of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
