Karin G. Taylor, of Southern Pines, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. She was 98 years old.
She was a resident at Penick Village in Southern Pines for many years and had previously lived in Whispering Pines. Karin had many dear friends in the area. She was the widow of retired Vice Adm. Rufus L. Taylor, U.S.N., U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1933, who predeceased her in September 1978.
Karin was born May 12, 1914, in Yokohama, Japan, to Swedish parents and was educated in both Sweden and Japan. She traveled the world with her late husband and family and was fluent in Swedish, German and Japanese, as well as conversant in several other languages.
She enjoyed sewing, golf and outdoor activities as well as Ikebana, the Japanese art form of flower arrangement. Karin enjoyed many family visits and was delighted to see everyone grow and develop.
She is survived by two children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Karin, like her husband before her, chose to make an anatomical donation to a medical university so that the doctors of tomorrow may learn from the people of today. No funeral arrangements or memorial services are planned.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any remembrances be made to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be left at www.bolesfuneralhome.com.
Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines is assisting the family.
