Obituary for James L. Leonard

James Leo Leonard, 74, of Hoffman, passed away at his home after a long battle with lung cancer and heart disease.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines, with burial in the West End Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic Rite service at 8 p.m.
Born Sept. 8, 1938, in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Joseph L. and Doris Booher Leonard, he was formerly of Worcester, Mass. For 42 years of his life he was a tractor-trailer driver, for which 11 years he was and owner-operator. He was a member of several groups including IBEW, Teamsters of Ohio, Moose Lodge No. 1838, Morning Star Lodge of Masons, and Scottish Rite of Massachusetts.
He also served in the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of 3rd class engineman.
He was married to Betty Lou (Rettig) Johnston, and preceded in death by wives Adrienne Jean (Scott) Leonard-Young and Hazel Louise (Puckett) Leonard.
Mr. Leonard is survived by his sons, Joseph K. Leonard and Michael J. Leonard, both of Worcester, Mass., and Cory J. Leonard, of Concord, Mass.; and a daughter, Justina M. (Leonard) Reusser, of Prescott Valley, Ariz. He also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
