Franklin David Matthews, 78, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Boles Funeral Home, in Southern Pines, with inurnment to follow. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.
Mr. Matthews was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Moore County, to the late Ruby Davis and Clarence Matthews. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Polly; daughter Teresa Segars and husband, Ron, of Atlanta; sons David Matthews, of Columbia, S.C., and Thomas Earl Matthews and wife, Teresa, of Braselton, Ga.; sisters Gladys Watson and Peggy Wikoff, both of Southern Pines; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alexandria Matthews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Roger and Jack Matthews; and sister Evelyn Hyrowski.
