Bette Thomas Goudey, 86, of Seven Lakes North, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Penick Village, in Southern Pines.
Mrs. Goudey was born May 6, 1926, in Asheville, to the late George Washington Thomas and Eleanor Elizabeth Thomas.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at West End Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Larry Lyons officiating. Inurnment will follow the service in the church columbarium.
Mrs. Goudey received her bachelor’s degree from Coker College in South Carolina. She later obtained a master’s in education from New York University. She volunteered as an EMT for more than 20 years with the Randolph County Rescue Squad in New Jersey. Her education and EMT skills allowed her the ability to teach swimming and first aid to many during her lifetime. She worked aboard various tanker ships teaching CPR and lifesaving skills to those out at sea for many days and months at a time.
Mrs. Goudey was preceded in death by her husband of 57years in 2010, Gordon Melvin Goudey.
Mrs. Goudey is survived by a son, G. Thomas Goudey and wife, Martha R., of Mebane; a daughter, Lorna Goudey Hodge, of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Eric A. Hodge and Alex T. Hodge, of Raleigh.
